Co-ops: FWS Delay on Lesser Prairie Chicken Decision a Win for Common Sense

Arlington, VA, June 27, 2013 — Jo Ann Emerson, CEO of the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA), today praised the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s (FWS) postponement of its decision on whether to list the lesser prairie chicken (LPC) as a threatened species.

“The decision to postpone listing the LPC as a threatened species is a win for common sense and testament to the power of Co-op Nation expressing its opinion through comments to the agency,” said Emerson. “We strongly support the regionally-focused Range-wide Plan as the best solution to increase LPC populations and I applaud Director Ashe’s commitment to working with the five state wildlife agencies and numerous stakeholders.”
