Washington, DC, May 1, 2009 – MyVetwork and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA) announce a strategic partnership through which NRECA will help identify career opportunities for veterans, and family members of the U.S. Military on the social networking Web site MyVetwork.com. The partnership inaugurates a unique approach to job search that eclipses traditional job boards: On MyVetwork.com job opportunities are “tagged” with a “job profile,” then targeted to prospective applicants based on data captured in the MyVetwork member’s profile. Users who tag their profiles with keywords such as: I Seek “career” or “benefits” or I Am Good At “electrical work” or “security” will be served up job openings similarly tagged. The more keywords a member has in common with posted job opportunities, the closer the job opportunities will appear to the user when viewed on the user’s computer screen (see attached image).
“The National Rural Electric Cooperatives Association is comprised of over 900 cooperatives across the United States. We have a keen interest in tapping valuable skills our nation’s veterans bring to the workforce,” says Russell Turner, principal of human capital Issues for NRECA. “As a preferred employer on MyVetwork.com, we can not only promote co-op jobs within the MyVetwork community, we can micro-target specific positions to those individuals with the right skills and interests.”
NRECA will inaugurate the program with approximately 200 jobs on MyVetwork.com, primarily seeking people with skills suited for electrical lineworkers, engineers, operations and maintenance positions at electric cooperatives across the country.
“Troops deployed to Iraq and Afghanistan are returning home to challenging times,” says Jay Chalnick, MyVetwork’s director of partnerships. “After the yellow ribbons come down, it’s often a struggle to plug back into pre-combat lives, with few support systems in place for guidance. MyVetwork.com leverages unique and powerful algorithms to assist in the “re-entry” effort and targets job opportunities to veterans looking for meaningful work.”
The MyVetwork community, including its job matching service, is available at no cost to active duty, veterans, retirees, and family members of all service branches.
