Electric cooperatives own more than forty percent of America’s distribution lines, nearly 2.5 million miles of line covering three quarters of the nation’s landmass. That system is operated, maintained, and upgraded by the 70,000 employees of NRECA’s member co-ops.

NRECA works with cooperatives to help foster a commitment to safety and promote compliance with state and federal safety regulations. Member systems participate in NRECA’s Rural Electric Safety Achievement Program (RESAP), a comprehensive system-wide approach to improving safety. Safety managers participate in an intense four-week program to become certified Loss Control Professionals.

NRECA works to ensure federal safety regulations address the unique circumstances of electric cooperatives.
