Barbara Walz, Senior Vice President for External Relations and Environmental, Tri-State G&T Association, testified before the House Energy and Commerce Committee's Subcommittee on Energy and Power on the effect of the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) New Source Performance Standards (NSPS) for Greenhouse Gasses (GHG) on Tri-State G&T. Ms. Walz told the Committee that the NSPS for GHGs for fossil fuel-fired plants unlawfully creates a single standard for fossil fuel-plants based on natural gas combined combustion turbines, instead of proposing individual standards based on the best available system of emission reduction that has been adequately demonstrated for each fuel type, as mandated by the Clean Air Act. This has created a standard that can only be met by one fuel type, and effectively banned coal-fired power plants cannot be built.
