Beginning in 2013, 23 electric cooperatives participated in NRECA’s $68 million Smart Grid Demonstration Project, half of which was funded by a U.S. Department of Energy stimulus grant. The project allowed participating co-ops to try smart grid technologies, learn how to use them effectively, and to share best practices and lessons learned with the rest of the co-op family. Final reports were published in 2014.
