More than 80 participants from partnering electrification programs traveled to the annual meeting from Bolivia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala and the Philippines. Delegates participated in events throughout the week to gain an in-depth understanding of NRECA and U.S. electric cooperatives. As in previous years, the annual meeting provided an important venue for IPD staff and international partners to meet and discuss current and future activities, technologies and needs.
At the conclusion of the annual meeting, eight international guests participated in a visit to South Louisiana Electric Cooperative Association to gain an understanding of NRECA member cooperative operating practices and procedures, service territory characteristics, member service functions, and to familiarize themselves with the U.S. cooperative culture.
We would like to extend a special thanks to South Louisiana Electric Cooperative for generously opening its doors to our international guests and for the welcoming spirit from management and staff. Each year, the co-op visit is an important part of the experience for our international attendees. In a small group setting, they are able to tour a U.S. co-op and ask questions about everything from billing and finance to logistics. The annual meeting and local co-ops visit provides valuable experiences that our international partners can take back to their utilities to help better serve their consumers and communities.
The annual meeting was another successful excursion for the International staff and guests. We look forward to next year in Nashville. Be sure to stop by and visit with us at NRECA’s other conferences, too!
